What does "expectations" mean in the following dialogue? Ye Fei: Ma Li, can you give me a quick summary of what you have found out about habits and customs in different countries? Ma Li: It is quite interesting. I learnt that expectations at weddings can be quite different. If you attended a wedding in Korea, there would be chickens at the ceremony.

Things that the participants and guests are expected to do, by the other guests. Therefore - something that you would be surprised or disappointed if someone did not do, if you went. Parents have expectations of their children. Teachers have expectations of their pupils, particularly in regard to behaviour and participation in class.

What a person would usually be supposed to do or what we would predict they would do. For example if someone helps you with something it is expected/ an expectation that they would say thankyou. In the example you gave it is an expectation that there will be chickens at a wedding ceremony in Korea
