What does «Хотел как лучше» mean? Here's the full sentence: Я для тебя стараюсь... Хотел как лучше.For bonus points.... Can you provide examples of similar constructions? It's there a pattern here or is just a particular set phrase?

Felix, is right. It's more like excuse. I can say that when the results of my assistance was negative. For example: I know, you need my help whith computer program. It's very urgent for you. I'm trying to help you, because I know programm the more better (I think that) than you. Ops! I broken you notebook. And then I can say: Я для тебя стараюсь... Хотел как лучше. But, If you were Russian, you answer me: А получилось как всегда...
