How should I inquire about renewing cards? Let's say when renewing something like credit card, member card, passport and so on, we might want to do that earlier than actual expiry date, maybe by one month before. For example, my card will expire on October 1st, but I want to renew it on September 1st because that would be more convenient to me. But since I have paid the fee (such as annual fee), I'd wonder what would happen to the fee I have paid for that September. So I'd like to confirm whether they could add another one month to the next contract period or they would just terminate the previous contract and start a new one regardless of how many days or months left before the expiry date. I hope you understand what I tried to say. So in this case, how should I ask briefly? Thank you.

I would suggest that you simply say, "can I prepay the membership (or whatever) fee on my (whatever) card? And the answer most likely will be that you can pay the membership fee whenever you want but it won't affect the membership or contract period.

You could say 'will this new card expire one (or however many) year(s) from my renewal, or the expiry of the old one?' or 'Does the new term start from when I renew, or from when the old one expires?'.
