かっこいい vs. すごい I know they both mean cool, but is there a difference? It seems like かっこいい is used when referring to someone and すごい is used when referring to something. Is this right?

To add to the above, すごい does not have to be a compliment or something "good" (positive connotation). Think about the word "incredible". You can say someone's breath is すごい, which implies that it is bad. "Something is beyond of expectation" is a good translation, but it does not always mean it is cool, while かっこいい is always cool

●かっこいい Someone's appearance or behavior is cool. "He is cool/HANDSOME; appearance 彼はかっこいい" "He is kind to everyone so he is cool; behavior. 誰にでもやさしい彼はかっこいい。" Just saying かっこいいwithout any reason as in the first example would imply that someone's appearance is cool/handsome. ●すごい Something is beyond of expectation and is therefore cool. "No one can run faster than him so he is cool/AWESOME. 彼よりも速く走ることができる人はいないので、彼はすごい。" Hope this helps!
