It's almost as if Hello, Here's a line from Friends when the chair stucked at the door: Rachel: What took you so long? Ross: It's almost as if this wasn't built for a quick getaway. What's the meaning or function of "It's almost as if"? Does that equals to "It seems like"? Thanks in advance:)

It does mean "it seems like." However, normally when Americans use the phrase "it's almost as if" it is used sarcastically. So he is saying "Contrary to your expectations, this door was not built to allow a quick exit."
