What do "ably" and "assisted" mean here? "He was ably assisted by Robert James." I've taken this sentence from a vocabulary book.

ably: skilfully, competently, efficiently assisted: helped, aided Also note, skillfull and skilful are the same word. Skillful is preferred in the US and skilful is used everywhere else. In Canada you can get away with either but skilful is more common.
