- use dure as an adjective describing the noun. For example: de dure tafel (the expensive table), het dure huis ( the expensive house) - use duur when using a verb to describe the noun. For example: de tafel is duur ( the table is expensive), het huis is duur (the house is expensive)

The difference is in gender and article. It is a left over in Dutch coming from the general Germanic language with cases. I do not directly have a rule but I will create you a few examples. Een duur boek. (Het boek, neuter) Een dure pen. (De pen, not neuter) Het dure boek. De dure pen.
