Societal is an adjective that relates to people in general. For example, 'societal change' means that society is changing, therefore the people in that community/society is changing culturally or behaviourally. Social also relates to society and people. For example, 'humans are very social beings', or 'it was an informal social gathering', and 'drug abuse is a major social problem'. Does this help?
