The Hymn of the Creatures (Hymn of the Sun)
by St. Francis of Assisi
Most High, omnipotent Lord
Thine are the praises, the glory and honour, and all the blessings.
They belong to Thee alone, Most high, and no man is worthy to name
Thee.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, with all thy creatures, above all brother sun
who illuminates the day.
And he is beautiful and radiates with great splendour.
Of Thee, Most High, he represents the importance.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through sister moon and the stars.
In the sky, Thou has shaped them with clarity, precious and beautiful.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through brother wind and through the air
and the clouds, and the fair and all other kinds of weather, by which
Thou givest sustenance to all Thy creatures.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through sister water, who is very useful and
precious and chaste.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through brother fire, by whom Thou
illuminest the night; and he is beautiful and cheerful and sturdy and
strong.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through our sister mother earth, who
sustains and governs us and produces a multitude of fruits with coloured
flowers and herbs.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through those who forgive for the love of
Thee, and endure sickness and tribulation.
Blessed are they who suffer peacefully for by Thee, Most High, they shall
be crowned.
Praise be to Thee, my Lord, through our sister death of the body, from
whom no living human can escape. Woe to those who die in mortal sin.
Blessed are those who find themselves in thy most holy will, for second
death cannot harm them.
Praise and bless my Lord, and thank him and serve him with great
humility.
