vocabulary is more important than grammar. For example, I sick, i hungry, i home, etc, these are obviously having grammatical mistakes. But, the listeners still understand what you are trying to say. On the other hand, if you don't know any of these vocabulary, it is impossible to express your idea or feeling.

    Hello Aquarius,
Both are important to form correct sentences and make a comprehensible speech. The language is expressed in combining words into a certain approved on structure. A sentence becomes incomprehensible if this order is altered or modified. So if you work on increasing your vocabulary without knowing how to use them in logical sentences ,that is to say conforming with the common approved on grammatical rules, your speech or written text won't be understood.
On the other hand if you learned the grammar well enough without acquiring enough vocabulary your ability to express yourself in the language will be limited.
So you'd better learn them simultaneously which is presented in most English language courses.
Here are some tips to help you improve both your vocabulary and grammar .The time you need to improve depends on how much time you dedicate to learning and how intensive your effort is.To learn 'quickly' you have to intensify your efforts like taking intensive courses for examples.
-To start learning English from the scratch you might need to take some initial classes to learn the alphabet , how to pronounce ,basic vocabulary and grammar. You can do that by taking classes in a language institute or by self learning online, although some guiding from a tutor at that early stage is recommended, unless you are able to depend only on audio/video facilities.
    - Then you have to practice and increase your vocabulary through different means such as :
*Reading at your level of comprehension simple texts or books and looking up new words .
    * Listening to English through music and possibly reading the lyrics .
    * Watching movies in English with subtitles in your mother tongue..
    * Chatting with natives online using voice chats or in real life .Mingling with natives is a very good way to be constantly listening to speech in English, even if you don't understand at the beginning.

Make lists of words you learned and categorize them, e.g words you use at the office , words you use at school , greetings etc..
    - Keep a diary in English . Try to use the new words you learned to write and compose simple sentences .The more you add up to your vocabulary, the more you can form intricate ones. Test your level!.
-Take a holiday abroad if you can afford in countries speaking English. It is an opportunity to practice with natives and learn more about the culture and people. You can sign up in language courses in those countries as well beside visiting its historical and monumental buildings and museums . You will be using guiding phrasebooks to help you get along there. The whole process will help you learn more words, expressions and practice speaking.
All the above can help you improve your language. Intensifying your efforts will make you improve faster. Concentrating on whatever method you are applying will guarantee you a more steady improvement.
I hope those tips were helpful.
    Good luck:)

In order to learn English and improve your vocab and grammar, you can follow 2 methods.
First is the repetition-based method, where you learn English words by writing them several times or saying them repeatedly until you remember them all. If you patiently follow the process, you will see your vocabulary extended very well.

Secondly, you also need have to have a notebook with your own note-taking rules. Each time you log onto Italki, note down any new words in this Answers section.
The only problem is whether you want a rich vocabulary or not.

Any good plan should answer the four following questions.
Firstly, how many words will you learn a week: five, ten, fifteen or more?

Secondly, when will you learn them? At a fixed time every other morning or anytime you feel like learning? This is what I personally recommend
Thirdly, how often will you review what you have learnt: once a week, once a month or before a test ?

Finally, what areas of English will you focus on: sports, music, games or sciences? The answers may vary a great deal from one person to another depending on memory, schedules and interest. Otherwise, your study results won't be as you expected.

You can gain a big vocabulary and improve your English by simply by determining what field of words to learn, making a plan of learning, choosing a learning method and regularly practising your plan and method.
Although it is up to you, daily vocab learning is better than weekly and weekly is better than monthly.Good luck.
