What is the difference between "fast" and "quick" ?

"Fast" and "quick" refer to something marked by great speed. "Fast" is more often applied to a person or thing in motion (a fast runner; his fast horse). "Quick" most often applies to what takes little time or to what is prompt (a quick snack; your quick reaction).
