What are difference between Australian and British accent?

I mean, I can see why for instance New Zealand accent is singled out, but these two are kind of the same to me ;) It's like Canadian and American accents, they're different a little bit, but no essential difference.

The most striking difference between Australian and British accents is the pronunciation of individual letters. Vowel pronunciation is the most significant difference between British and Australian English. Australians elongate their vowels ("Eel-oon-gayte uur vowls"). Note that words ending with "ay" sound are pronounced "ie." Often today sounds like "to-die"

Some Australians speak quickly so the words run together and end sentences with an upward intonation. Sometimes comments sound like a question.

A lot of Australians shorten or abbreviate words and add an "o" to the end. Afternoon becomes "arvo" and business becomes "bizzo."

Overall, Australians use many words common to British English, such as "lift" instead of "elevator."
If your country shows the Australian TV series Home and Away or Neighbours you will hear the Australian accent. Listen to the actors Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman as well.

Hi there. Well, there is really no such thing as uniform British accent or a uniform Australian accent. The following website has English speakers from all around the world recite the following paragraph:

"Please call Stella. Ask her to bring these things with her from the store: Six spoons of fresh snow peas, five thick slabs of blue cheese, and maybe a snack for her brother Bob. We also need a small plastic snake and a big toy frog for the kids. She can scoop these things into three red bags, and we will go meet her Wednesday at the train station."

    You can hear the difference.
