    Hello Paul,

To start learning German it is recommended to take some initial courses on- or offline with a tutor or in a language institution.
You need to be introduced to the pronunciation, basic grammar and basic greetings and phrases used in the language.
Then you can continue by self learning using online language sites such as italki to chat and practice with natives and/or get assistance from language teachers.

The German sentence structure has many similarities with English structure, however there are some aspects that differ completely making the German one more intricate than its English counterpart.
When pursuing a German course you will learn about those peculiar structures and additional aspects nonexistent in English grammar and its sentences such as ( the articles :der ,die ,das ,the accusative and dative and many others).

Hi here is an easy learning module for you

I've been studying German for a couple years, and I know more German than people who take 4 years of German in school.

You need to immerse your life in German. Change your computer's language to German. Read German news, listen to German music, read German books. Look up the words you don't know, and make flash cards out of them with anki (google it).

German books are important. You can get really easy kids books to get started, and then move on to harder books.

I scored loads of books at a used book sale in German, French, Russian, and many other Japanese. So far, reading books and looking up the words, and making flash cards out of the words has worked wonderfully for me.
