Is it possible in Tagalog to say of someone that (literally), "his heart his happy/glad" or "his heart is sad". And would it be a common mode of expression? Thx!

ya it is possible. "his heart his happy/glad - ang puso niya=(could be he or she) ay maligaya/masaya. You could also use the word kanya - Ang kanyang puso ay maligaya/masaya.
The common expression to say that someone is happy is - Siya(refers to him or her) ay maligaya/masaya.
