are language learning sites a failure?

after 2 years using this and one other site, i only found one person with whom i progressed efficiently in a language. Some people are very serious and friendly and i ve learnt something (even not strictly about languages), but 95% is pure trash. Moreover, after a while i realized my english is worst due to exposition to a bunch of heterogeneous influences on substract languages working on the process. Last, there is an amazingly amount of banalization in the "willingness" of learning a language. (and most probably, an incredible amount of mental lazyness). ok, what your say?, if any.

I don't think these websites are particularly useful in terms of people actually learning how to speak other languages, but they are good for putting into practice what you've learnt before. They are also very good for meeting people from other countries with whom you can practice, as well as learning more about the culture of the countries where your chosen language is spoken.

If, however, you depend on a site like italki to actually teach you, then you may be frustrated by the lack of progress. This is because it is far more effective to do the hard study for yourself, using books.

Although I didn't learn much, I've made great friends here and it motivated me more. I learn Spanish and I made friends from Colombia, Venezuela. Sure, with friendship I've added more to my knowledge of Spanish and now I want to visit those friends. But honestly you have to go to a proper school, these sites are only good for practicing what you already know and maybe for some details about the language but it can't replace a serious teacher. On the other hand,
If you are really dedicated, if you can self-study better then it's also good, because questions are replied almost always in a seriousity. So it's up to you. Take it or leave it :))))

They become a failure when ppl depend totally on others to learn their languages; I say that these sites can be really efficatious only in practicing the language u already know or asking questions! one must work by himself first.

i think the first step for learning a new language is using systematic textbooks, which is more practical. then after mastering the basic knowledge of the language, we can looking for a language website to continue our study.
take the english for example, i usually download the MP3 file from the BBC for practising my listening, and if there is something i don't understand , i will print off the corresponding transcript and read it.
besides, we can watch movies, read newspapers...
so basically, there are many ways for learning a new language.
the italki is only one of the many choices.
