Hi Jeff,
Many people say that Indonesian bahasa is "wonderful". Why? Because the grammar is very simple. We don't have tense, everything is stated in simple present tense, we don't have gender for noun and other English grammatical stuffs. Besides, we simply repeat singular noun to make it plural. =)
On the other hand, many english native speakers who learn bahasa find it a bit confusing because Indonesian bahasa doesn't have as rich vocabularies as English. One word can have several extremely different meanings. For instance the word "enak". When you use it for food, "Makanan ini tidak enak" it means "This food is not delicious". But when you use it for your health "Badanku tidak enak" it simply becomes "I don't feel well". Also notice when you use it to express feeling "Perasaanku tidak enak", the meaning changes as if you are saying "I smell a rat". And it just a word. We have many words that behaves like that ...
Good luck with your Indonesian!
Esther
