Hi Sharon. I taught English in Brazil for a year and lived there for 2 years and 8 months overall. I think it would be good for you to get in contact with a native speaker, but I can also help you with the hang-ups that English speakers find in learning Portuguese. If your knowledge of Portuguese is extremely basic at this point you shouldn't count on becoming fluent before June, but you can definitely build a solid foundation. Portuguese is a wonderful language to learn and what I consider the most beautiful and artistic language and the Brazilian people are the greatest in the world.
