I am a university graduate with a Bachelor of Sciences in Ecology and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies. During my time in college, I learned that I am very interested in languages and education. Thus, I have taken the 100-hr TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification course offered by Oxford Seminars, with high hopes of traveling and teaching English abroad.
I am comfortable teaching English as a second language to students at any age range or level. Because I grew up speaking English at school and Croatian at home, I have a knack for noticing differences in language structures and explaining pronunciations for unfamiliar sounds. My first exposure to teaching English was at home, where I informally taught my mom the differences between English and Croatian grammar. I’ve fine tuned these skills while tutoring native and ESL college students in English grammar and writing. As a recent college graduate, I am experienced with college-level writing expectations for creative and scientific papers.
Currently I am teaching natural history and marine biology to middle school and high school students aboard a 137 foot long schooner. I love my job, but I would love to continue teaching English at the same time.
I am very organized, and I have experience with making lesson plans and finding interactive materials to use for my classes. Still, I am flexible and I can adjust lessons to meet my students’ needs. I can provide any of the following services:
-English lessons (speech, grammar, writing, reading)
-speaking practice
-writing tutoring (business emails, academic papers, creative writing, etc.)
-information about universities in the United States
-interesting topics of discussion
In general, I am energetic and outgoing, with a desire to engage my students and make them excited to learn and perfect their English. I plan my lessons with the interests of individual students in mind, so that lessons are not only informative but fun as well!
