I am a university-trained and experienced translator and subtitler of Spanish, English and French, and also an English and French caption editor. I studied to become an elementary school teacher in the past and I've always been interested in coaching and helping people improve their skills. I am currently teaching myself to offer personalized language lessons and tutoring on a one-on-one basis.
English is the first language that I learned to read and write in my childhood - a time when I was immersed in the language and came to speak French, my mother tongue, with an accent. I have reached an advanced level of spoken and written Spanish in the past decade and I am now working on improving my proficiency in Portuguese. Being a language student myself, I can empathize with my students and relate to their struggles and triumphs. But I have also realized that for language acquisition to truly take place, we need to take charge of our own learning and let our teachers and tutors simply act as guides and facilitators in the process.
I offer my tutoring services in reading, writing and listening, as well as speaking practice. I rely on a variety of learning materials and techniques. As a linguist with a wide range of interests and professional experiences, I am knowledgeable in several areas, including business, science and technology, environmental sustainability, psychology, sociology, arts, and music.
