Hello! I have been teaching English as a second/foreign language since 2005. I'm TEFL certified, having received my Cambridge CELTA certification from International House in Barcelona. I also have a bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I have taught all levels and ages of students from many different backgrounds and nationalities. I'm quite adept at tailoring a student's curriculum to best suit their needs. I also teach English for special purposes such as for business, medical or aviation and test preparation.
I'm dependable and conscientious about my work and my students. I strive to continue adding value and practicality to the lessons I teach. I think it's not only important for students to know the grammar and vocabulary of a language, but also how the language is actually spoken and used in everyday situations as opposed to just what they have learned in textbooks or formal classroom training. English is an ever evolving language and I want my students to evolve with it.
I also believe that learning English doesn't have to be a chore. I try to make my classes as enjoyable and interesting as possible. I customize and structure all my classes according to each student's abilities and interests.
A little about me:
I live in Austin, Texas, USA. I'm a native Texan, but have lived in other parts of the world. I really enjoy traveling and often am out on the road, but I still connect with my students. I'm a bit of an internet nerd who likes read, hike and trail run (when the weather is warm). I also am an extremely informal person and like for all my students to feel relaxed. You'll find that I'm a bit of a joker, so be prepared to come to class with a sense of humor!
