For me, English is a joy to teach because it is a multi-faceted tool. On a practical level, the English language opens doors to a wealth of knowledge, not to mention some of the best universities in the world. It is also an intensely artistic language, which has spawned endless works of literature and can be utilized creatively in a variety of ways, from creating subtle variations in tone and shades of meaning to bold, vibrant declarations. Combining these two facets of the English language – the utilitarian and the creative – are what make English a joy to use and a privilege to teach. I relish engaging students in the language in ways that make them think about the world and themselves in new and fascinating ways.
My teaching experiences have shaped my teaching style. Over the course of my teaching career I have learned the importance of being flexible in the classroom, as every class and student has a different set of proclivities and shortcomings that need to be taken into account when planning lessons. I also strive to engage students in lessons through utilizing a variety of learning styles and creating fun, creative lessons that allow students to play with the language in ways that allow students to learn about the world and themselves.
