About Lauren

I'm focusing on students with a good command of English, but who need an advanced teacher to push them to improve their spoken or written skills. My class will work great for you if you want to speak more articulately, expand your vocabulary, or improve your pronunciation. I can also help you prepare for an interview if you need help getting a job, or prepare for an advanced exam like the IELTS, FCE, Advanced exam, or the TOEFL.

I have a master’s degree in rhetoric, which is an advanced field of English focused on persuasion. I most recently worked as a college professor at the University of South Florida, where I was trained to teach advanced argument, composition, and business writing. While there I received an award for my skills as an English teacher. I’ve also published multiple articles in academic journals, and I edited the English textbook adopted by the University for its English students—so I have a very solid background in both teaching and advanced English.

Outside of classroom teaching, I work one-on-one with non-native English speakers to improve their speaking, argumentation and interview skills. In the past I have edited dissertations, masters theses, and academic articles as well as helped students prepare for advanced exams. I’ve worked with students of various language backgrounds—including German, Nepali, Hindi, Arabic, and Senegalese— and varied professional backgrounds—including science, engineering, mathematics, and business administration. I am flexible with my students, and I can help you regardless of your profession.
