I live in Shanghai, China. I am a native Mandarin speaker and telecommunication engineer working for China Mobile Communications Corporation, the leading telecommunication operator, which is ranked in the Fortune Global 500 list. As of January 2012, it is the world's largest mobile phone operator with about 655 million subscribers.
As I have been living and working in Shanghai my entire life, I also speak Shanghainese, an influential dialect of Wu Chinese, as my first language. This awards me an insight of traditional Chinese culture such as Tang Poetry, and folk customs in the Wu Chinese speaking area.
In addition to classical Chinese poetry, I also adore contemporary art songs, Chinese folk songs, musicals and classical music. My favorite musical work is a moving aria, “Vesti la Giubba” from Ruggero Leoncavallo's opera “Pagliacci“. The song “A Red, Red Rose” based on a Scottish poem absorbed me.
I helped many of my friends with their Chinese. One of them, an English speaker once complimented me on my English. She said that I can explain Chinese to learners well with a neutral and clear accent, so she suggested that I should apply to be an italki tutor.
I have been learning English myself. Hence, I know the difficulties of learning languages.
I hope you can learn Chinese well and enjoy it. I am looking forward to talking to you.
