My name is Anders Erik Johnson, and currently, I am 15 years of age. I was born and raised in a small town in Minnesota just north of the Twin Cities, called: Lindström. This town is very rich in it's Swedish ethnic roots, which makes sense considering it was founded by Swedish immigrants nearly 120 years ago. There is also a handful of people, mostly of older age, who reside in this town that speak the Swedish language in the local cafés, and at the Swedish heritage clubs.
Lindström is very celebratory of it's Swedish origin by erecting statues of Swedish authors; fictitious Swedish book characters, hanging Swedish signs near store windows, hosting large parades. Of course, I have but a droplet of Swedish descent in me, so I'm not very fond of my Swedish side, because there's really no angle to it. I like to say that I am half Dutch, (from my mother's father's side), and Half Norwegian, (from my father's father's and mother's side). Which is why I am intrigued by Norwegian culture and heritage.
I belong to a Norwegian heritage club, known as: Sons of Norway. In this club, we learn and experience Norwegian culture through dance, food, language, and celebrations. My grandmother told me once that her mean side was from her father who was German, and her nice, mellow side was from her mother who was Norwegian. Lately I have been studying to learn the Norwegian language. I can write it to an extent of a beginner, but it's the spoken aspect to it that I lack practice in. So If there's any Norwegian linguists out there that'd like to help me out on learning Norsk, I'd like it very much for your help.
