I'm a Third Culture Kid, so I have a natural affinity for language learning. I was born in the U.S. (D.C. suburbs), moved to Paris, France as a kid (et j'ai decouvert que c'était parfait pour obtenir un bon accent Français, dont les Parisiens m'a dit est vraiment pas americain ;-)), then back to the U.S. as a teenager and young adult (D.C. suburbs, southwest Virginia, northern California), and as an adult have also lived in China (Beijing, Dalian 北京、大连), Taiwan (台北), China again (北京), and now Berlin, Germany for 3.5 years... so that's why I'm forever practicing self-flagellation-- err, I mean, learning German.
In 2014 I received my PhD in East Asian history with a specialization in modern Chinese history. 2014的时候我收到了东亚历史的博士学位（专业中国近代、当代历史).
My husband is from Spain - more precisely, the Basque country - and that's why I'm learning Spanish. I have never studied Spanish formally, but I would like to some day. Ahora tenemos una hija de 1 año, y la familia de mi marido habla solo en castellano. Creo que es muy importante que yo puedo hablar más con ellos.
