There are many books around me. Several thousands, I guess. To holding a book between my hands was a major part of my past life.
As you know, since a couple of years ebooks are an rising star. Maybe at first for those who are technical nerds, but meanwhile it seems that there are more ebook-readers during my daily train ride than real books.
In the past I had often said: I will not enjoy those ebooks! For me books need to smell like books or rustle like books and, of course, I need to put them into my cabinet!
I did said so, indeed! But now - without I had aware my own changing - I often catch me by my own with searching after an ebook just befor I wish to know wether there is a real book and how much it will be cost... that is crazy!
Not to holding a book in front of me is a major part of me, to expand my mind, that should I say.
What about you? Do you prefer real books or ebooks?
I prefer real books although e-books are more convenient. E-books can carry like millions book in just one little tablet, you can bring it anywhere, read it anytime until the battery runs out, haha.
But real books are more enjoyable, I love the smell of paper, how papers change their colours as time passes. Putting books up my bookshelf is like putting fortunes into my treasure chest I can proudly looking at those beautiful books with different colours, different sizes.
Last week, I borrowed a book called "The Return of the Word Spy" by Ursula Dubosarsky from my school library. It has a page introducing the actual braille alphabet, pretty cool huh? I bet you cannot touch it and read the braille alphabet on a tablet, :P
Real books for the concentration!
I found many people don't want to be distracted when they are reading or studying, like your friend's is calling you up through a instant messenger, or like you want to play games instead of reading a e-book.
As there are so many distractions, I definitely prefer real books.
I prefer real books even though e-books are sometimes cheaper or more convenient. Just one tablet or Smartphone can contain a lot of books.
However, I think real books have own its value. I often enjoy book alone whenever I have free time. Sometimes, I like the feeling that I smell the paper from a new book. It’s so interesting.
Another reason is I am a very angry and careless man. I may kill flies or mosquitoes by a real book, but how can I do like that with a tablet? Ha.

I'm surprised. I'm in my sixties and I prefer ebooks, if we are simply talking about the reading experience.
I have two big problems with ebooks: 1) DRM, you don't really "own" your ebooks, you can't do the things you can do with real books, you can't lend them, sell them, buy them secondhand. I lost $600 worth of ebooks when Gemstar stopped supporting their ebooks and shut down their server. 2) You still do not have access to more than a tiny fraction of the titles available as real books.
As far as the reading experience goes, I think it is as good or better. Partly this is because of aging eyes, and with an ebook, every book can be a large-print book if you wish. The ability to read in dark places comes in handy. The ability to carry 300 books with you is fantastic.
And just to be clear: I grew up the era of letterpress, and I still love the crisp look of letterpress and still regret the less good look of offset, so yes, I appreciate print books... but I like ebooks better. The plusses outweigh the minuses.
Always real books!! I have tried ebooks and I didn't like it, after a while my eyes starts to heart :(
