Hi there.

Well, I'm a shy person as well, and to be honest - it sucks. I've been learning English for a couple of years already and I can clearly see that more outgoing people improve much, much faster. They aren't afraid of communicating with totally new people, they are willing to practice their speaking whenever they can.

For example, I attend an English school now, and there are 12 people in the class. People who are more outgoing speak much more during out class, they join every single discussuion and talk even when they aren't asked to. I, personally, get to say approximately five to six sentences during the whole two hours class.

Even though, it's difficult to improve our skills being shy, you can still improve a lot, and, what's interesting, if you use effective methods, you'll learn better, faster than other people.

To sum up, you've got to find the method that is suitable for you. Don't stress yourself by forcing speech if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

I am sometimes shy too. If you go to class, try to prepare your course exercises before the teacher says and also try to talk to yourself in english. It will help to give you confidence to talk and learn faster and easier and more comfortable.

If you are shy finding partners, try to speak to those who you think you can talk english to them easier and without any stress...

Just practice and don't give up.

I wouldn't say that I'm a shy person, but I didn't improve my English through talking to people face to face; since I don't have that choice because I live in an Arab country, but I improved it through movies, animes, online gaming and social network, and of course school helped a bit.

I'm just saying that you don't have to be an outgoing person to improve your English, I'm not saying it wouldn't help I'm just saying it's not a must.

Hello
Ni hao , yes being shy doesn't help at learning languages , but If you talk to somebody who knows a bit in your language you will not be shy anymore . If you are going to find somebody who is interested in chinese language that will help you because you will let yourself to talk free to that person in your language then it will be ok to talk in your target language . I hope this sounds " hoa de " to you ^_^
