itaki Points: relevant or just a bunch of stink?

Are italki Points still an "experimental feature?" or just another feel good marketing ploy for the members? I think by just looking at the members who participate in the discussion, notebook and answers boards, it is evident that the italki community is "a friendly and useful place to learn." So, what's the point of having italki Points if they can not be redeemed for free classes, or whatever?  What say you?

Well, since you ask, I have 4 times as many points as you, therefore I am 4 times better than you.

@aegis, I am less than half as good as you on an absolute points score. But you have been on italki for longer.

I don't understand either why we are "given these points" if you can not redeem for free classes/informal tutoring, either. There is no need to "reward" people with a number, people who help others do that for pleasure andbe helpful, nor for a number. On the other hand if you.coyld redeem them for.classes, it would be an expense for italki and then many members who does not.contribute to this website would do that just to get points. So the importandt thing would be the amount of comments and not the quality of each.
