I am from Indiana and I have a sufficient knowledge of spanish and want to travel to a spanish-speaking country for the first time. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion of the best place to visit?
I had in mind, Mexico, Madrid or Columbia. Any other country that is typically friendly to foriegners or in general has a pretty straightforward spanish with minimal regional language variations in vocab.
First of all, as a Spanish person I should tell you that Madrid is not a country haha (well is a joke).
Madrid is very beautiful, and a very historic city. But I prefer Barcelona, it has an special feel.
I have never been in Mexico or Colombia, so I can't be objective, but Spain, for sure, is very beautiful and sure you would like it!

Your question hasn´t a unique answer. It depends on what you want to get on that trip.
Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world and there are many countries to visit but many different accents.
If you want learn, hear and speak original Spanish without strong accents I recommend you Spain ( Not Andalucia and Cataluña, have a difficult accent)
In South America: Chile, Perú, Colombia, Uruguay people speak quite well too.

You should come to Mexico!!! People is kind and funny. We love to party, we have many traditions, you´ll love the food. Mexico City is nice (I live here) but I strongly recommend to visit Morelos, Guanajuato and "little cities" to learn better:)
