I a new to this website, but I have already noticed that there are some deficiencies. For example, it seems that once I post a reply to a discussion, I can't correct it anymore, even if there are glaring typos. It would be nice to have an option called "Edit" for discussion posts. What other changes would you suggest for this website?
We have been asking for the edit option for so long, but our suggestions have not been taken into account.
Seth, corrections are made for free, so don't expect people to justify their answers based on grammar rules. I speak Spanish perfectly but sometimes I don't know always not why something is said in a way or in another (the rule, if there is any) but I can tell you if this is correct or not for sure. People who correct are native speakers, not teachers. If we expect only teachers to correct entries, prepare your credit card ...
By and large, I like this website quite a lot and as an improvement I would also agree with the "Edit" option, it is quite annoying having to add another comment just because I misspelled something!

The ability to edit text is a good one.
A better search facility to check if somebody has started a discussion on a certain topic, before starting that topic. This would hopefully reduce repetition, aid learning and act as a knowledge base.
Separating discussion groups from people searching for a language partner. However, I imagine people would ignore this.
If a trial or first lesson request is declined by a teacher, the teacher has to give a reason.
I know the site isn't really geared for searching language exchange partners, but I could imagine a facility that allowed for a more detailed search.
An instant conversation request facility. So somebody makes a request for instant conversation and only those online who meet the language/level requirement are shown the request. A bit like instant tutoring.
There are more and I'm sure others will have much better ideas.

One thing that was mentioned in the discussion http://www.italki.com/discussion/107199 was the issue of some people, who said they were native speakers, making corrections with further errors. So my, not so good idea, was to alleviate this. However, I see your point.
If we want people to give explanations and be teachers, we have to pay.
Thumbs down is good. We are all not going to agree on things and I'd be worried if we did.

Oh and on the correction of notebooks, I would add a facility where one would have to explain reasons for each correction and grammar point if relevant. That way one would have to be really sure about a notebook correction and it would help the writer much more.
