Do you need to give bribes often? Do authorities extort bribes from you? Bribes and kickbacks are very common in Russia, where we need to bribe authorities, even to bury our deceased relatives or run a business. What is the situation in your country?
No, that really is not done here. Especially for smaller things that normal civilians pay. There has been some things about bigger projects and how that got contracted. But then it is about milions.

For the average person, it's very rare in the US. Politicians are a different matter. Imagine a world where politicians weren't for sale...

Note that you can't really measure corruption, so it's about corruption perception. But so is this discussion :-)
In Poland all politicians are very corrupted too. Therefore my country cannot develop as fast as it could.
In everyday life now bribes are not so common as it used to be. I think this happened thanks to new technologies. Now everyone can record the other one, upload this corrupt conversation into Internet and everyone have evidence that there was a corruption. In Poland bigger problem is nepotism. There is no need to issue job advertisements about work in public sector, because all the places are filled with families and friends of politicians, directors and so on. When you do not have connections, you will never get job in public sector companies in Poland.
