Vlogging as Gaeilge!

I'm thinking about starting a vlog through Irish, and have been for a while. I know it can be hard to find short everyday videos in Irish on the internet. Learners out there, is this something you would be interested in and if so, what sort of topics would you like to hear about and what kind of vlog would you like?

Dia duit a Shiona,

This is a really good idea! Personally, I'm not keen to have the absolute basics spelt out for me. Beginner phrases can be found very easily, so I'd be more interested in "slices of life", eg. calling up a friend to apologise for being late, or even narrating as you make your breakfast. :D Something slightly atypical compared to the usual phrasebook stuff.

Here are a few podcasts/vlogs which I think hit a "sweet spot", ie. interesting and entertaining without being either too simple or complex: Learn Italian with Lucrezia (Italian); Kalyespeak (Filipino); Français Authentique (French); and KWOW (Korean). You might get some ideas from them for topics and formats. But no need to worry about doing a slick glammy video at this stage. :)

I think the Slovak Snack podcast was OK, as Saša and I had a clear opening and closing for each podcast, and our focus was on commonly-used expressions and the occasional idiom. Again, something different from the usual beginner-level "Hello, my name is..." stuff, but it still took us about 5 to 10 minutes to cover one phrase.

That said, definitely set a strict time limit on each vlog. It'll save you rambling on too much (and also save you time when piecing it together).

I would definitely watch those. I think a typical vlog about whatever you feel like at the time would be a good idea. I think adding captions/subtitles to it in Irish would be a big help for learning as well, for words a learner may not understand and need to look up.

Thanks Peachey, that was good advice and I'll take it into account! :)

That sounds interesting. I would definitely use that as a resource.
