Harry Potter Character Names: Any fan of Harry Potter around here?

I'm leaving this right here for two reasons:
1. For the fun of it.
3. To survey if there are humans who still fancy HP film series.

So to get the discussion going, I'd like to ask: Do you know any Harry Potter character who's name sounds quite funny (or odd if you prefer) in other language/s?

Example: I found out from my Ukrainian friend that in Russian, "Harry Potter" is somehow pronounced as "G[H]arry Patter". *Add in that Russian accent.*

In Polish:

Dobby is called Zgredek,

Snitch is called znicz, quaffle- kafel what sounds similar, but have different meaning ;-)

A lot of names is adapted to Polish, e.g. it's not Hermione, but Hermiona and we read it differently ;-)

Russian name for Harry Potter always make me laugh ;-)

So, as you can see, Harry Potter fan here! ;-) I like books more than films. Now I'm collecting Harry Potter books in English, unfortunately they are quite expensive in Poland.

Some Polish names, like Zgredek are made to be associated with some Polish verbs/nouns, but if we would retranslate it to English, the meaning would be quite different. As you said, some of the names are adapted to sound alike (Hedwig in Polish is Hedwiga ;-)), but I'm not sure if there is any rule. ;-) I noticed that the most (all?) of the surnames hadn't been changed, even if they could be translated or adapted to Polish.

Hey Kasia! :) Thanks for that. Wow, interesting names in Polish and quite very different. Would you happen to know the basis of the Polish names though? 'Coz I'm thinking at some point if a name is to be adapted in another language, if the name has no meaning really, it will be adapted as sounding alike (i.e. Harry to Russian's Garry. LOL). Is there anything like that?
