This may be a sensitive topic.

What do people in China think of Chinese people who cannot speak putonghua?

Do you look at them as an inferior species because they cannot speak putonghua? Do you think they even should be called ethnic Chinese?

One of Chinese culture:Don't forget who you are and where are you from!

我的朋友回答《China doesn't recognise me, so why should I learn Chinese?》

If you are Chinese and meet an ethnic Chinese person either in China or overseas who doesn't speak the common language:

1) Don't say to them "you are not (ethnic) Chinese because you don't speak Chinese" - that is like insulting people.

2) Don't say "you should learn Chinese" because it's incredibly rude to tell people what they should be doing with their lives without knowing them better. You can ask them if they ever considered learning Chinese, but do not say the "should" word. It doesn't sound good in English.

@Learner SC: Maybe it would be even more interesting to discuss the possible reasons behind certain behavioral paradigms that you have raised. But I fear that this probably would not be a popular thing to do here. I admire your courage, Good Luck!
