I have been studying Chinese for 2.5 years consistently but lately I have been going back over Chinese sentence patterns such as 因为。。。所以 and 一边。。。一边

Please give me your thoughts on these sort of lessons whether you think it is just better to be free-talking in Chinese or going back over these patterns. If you are alos past the point of needing english in your classes do you also sometimes slow down with your teacher and go back over basics that you may not be using properly in your semi-fluent Mandarin?
