Barry
Banner Ads in the Discussion forum

I don't know if this is an issue with my laptop, but for the last week or so, I have noticed whenever I read any discussion, banner ads for "from Doc to PDF," "The Cardiac Killer," "Translator to Download," etc. It's not bothersome to me, but if this isn't an issue with my laptop, then ....?(I will leave you to ponder the "whatever").

Apologies Barry.

I see what you mean now. I had been using the new version where there are no banner ads. Having switched back to classic I now see banner ads appearing in the discussion section. Since I am located in Hong Kong, they must have identified my IP and given me Chinese language adverts.

It happens to me! As I live in Uruguay, they are in Spanish.

Barry it could be that some unwanted program is installed in your web browser. I would run a virus-checker or something. You may have for example downloaded a free software program, and then unwantedly have given permission to install a load of junk. Mostly there is this installation page in which in a far corner there is a checkbox that shows that secretly the installer will also pollute your browser with a very 'helpful' add in, unless you uncheck that checkbox.

The only banners I've seen so far are italki-related promotions, plus some FB ads which I'm doing my best to ignore. They are quite unobtrusive and they don't bother me.

I really hope they didn't start selling ad space to unrelated products, because most of them use flash, gifs, sound, flashing lights and some not so sfw material and I will have to add italki to my adblocker (meaning I will not see their own ads either).
