When I was in high school I had a friend who was not a good english student. So once we were in english lessons, the teacher asked us: Why would you like to work? and the answer was this: I would like to work for have diner. :D

In spanish money: dinero

Since that day we start kidding about it

I suppose in the grand scheme of things it's not that embarrassing but I was once in a Subway where a Spanish girl was trying to order a sandwich, and she kept asking the guy behind the counter to put 'jam' in it. What she actually wanted was 'ham', which in Spanish is 'jamón.' In the end I worked out what she was trying to say and helped her out. Like I said, I'm sure there are much more embarrassing stories than that but it made me smile at the time.

Possibly my most embarrassing mistake:

I was renting a room in Nicaragua and the owner quoted the price "Dieciséis" which is $16 (a very good price) but in my mind I thought he said $26 and I asked "Do you have anything cheaper", "Hay algo más barato?"

My friend told me afterwards and I felt terrible :)

To tell someone "How years do you have?" :P , and many others things. I've been noticing that I make many mistakes in speaking and thanks to Italki I have found good friends who corrected me :). But i don't feel sad about it at all, because we are in a learning process. Also if someone makes a mistake when speak with me, I usually tell him/her.
