Facebook Data Leak Scandal - Zuckerberg "Sorry" after 10 Hour Senate Hearing

Following a lengthy Senate hearing - due to a recent data privacy scandal, Mark Zuckerberg has publicly apologised for a "breach of trust."

Zuckerberg,  CEO of Facebook, took out full-page ads in both US and UK newspapers in order to address the data breach. He highlights  "mistakes" made by Facebook regarding user privacy and data handling.  Zuckerberg said: "This was a breach of trust, and I am sorry....We're now taking steps to make sure this doesn't happen again."

Amid accusations, a US consultancy firm named Cambridge Analytica, has been accused of using the leaked personal data of up to 50 million users,  in order to benefit the 2016 US presidential campaign.

Facebook was allegedly warned that its data protection was too weak back in 2011. Zuckerberg added, "We're investigating every single app that had access to large amounts of data before we fixed this. We expect there are others. And when we find them, we will ban them and tell everyone affected."

Zuckerberg's wealth has apparently fallen by $10 billion this week, with Facebook experiencing a drop in value of $75 billion. A mass of Facebook users have already abandoned ship, encouraging others to follow suit, by sharing the tag #deletefacebook across social media.

Will this damage Facebook?

Do you trust online companies with your data?

What kind of actions should the users affected by the leak take?

What does Facebook need to do now and in the future?

I‘m deleting my Facebook page forever and never getting near that scam of a webite again. I hope Zuckerberg‘s wealth drops to zero and he ends up in bankruptcy along with his absurd company. He lured people, along with his co-conspirators, into creating what looked like a social media site, and made billions doing it. Deluded people divulged personal info about themselves they never should have. Zuckerberg made billions over it and ruined people’s lives. He and his partners in crime laughed all the way to the Bank. He hired Las Vegas specialist to invent a way to make Facebook as addictive as possible. And it became addictive. Zuckerberg belongs in jail, not in one of his mansions sitting on his 40,000,000,000.

Even the creators of Facebook admit they never had and never would have Facebook pages of their own.

I'm not for a minute surprised by any of this. I always assumed that's what they were doing.

He should claim that it's all the users' fault. They themselves agreed to show them advertisements based on their interests. Facebook demonstrated high efficiency of its ads in those elections. So it will continue these policies further. Then Facebook wouldn't loss $10 billions.
