Nina, I was going to say "acceptable", but based on your latest comment, the first word that comes to my mind is "adequate".

I would suggest; "sufficient" or "tolerable" as a term to use, and further suggest; to look up their synonyms and see their individual definitions, they may differ in a way to select them suitably.

I agree with "adequate." Once I read your paragraph, it was the first word that popped in my mind.

I find that the higher the level of English a person has, the more likely they are to use a dictionary--a single-language English dictionary. When you are a beginner, you just need the basic idea. When you know several possible choices and want "just the right word," a dictionary helps. One dictionary defines "adequate" as:

Sufficient to satisfy a requirement or meet a need.

So, "adequate" means "good enough." "Does what is needed."  "Adequate" describes the minimum. It's not positive or negative in tone, just factual. Something can also be "barely adequate," which is a little negative, or "more than adequate," which is a little positive.

For example, "You don't need expensive shoes. Any kind of athletic shoes will be adequate."
