I’ve always been a go-getter and established from a young age that I fight for what I want.

When I was in high school, my parents wanted me to take a science/engineering path, but I wanted to get into the arts and humanities, and my career counsellor at school didn’t let me change my path unless my parents approved. I ultimately got them to give me a chance to prove myself and haven’t looked back since.

The ironic thing is that my parents are proud that I fought for what I wanted, because it allowed me to pursue something I’m passionate about, and ultimately my parents love me and want me to be happy, even if my happiness doesn’t come from what they wanted for me.

Parents should support their kids emotionally and financially. They should not force their kids to take up something that they don't like but they can still give advice/guide their children. Parents should let their kids have their own mind/let them discover their interests/personality and let them research various careers so that they would be able to have several choices and they would be able to weigh the pros and cons of each before making a final decision.
