Common mistakes and advices

What`s up?

I would love to see your opinion on these questions.

What are the most common mistakes students and teachers make?

What advice would you give to your teachers or students?

My answer is:

The most common mistake students make is ignoring basic grammar. We all know how important talking is, but understanding grammar is an absolute must.

If by "grammar" you mean the proper use of nouns and verbs, then allow me to point out two very common mistakes.

In many languages, the word "advice" is a countable noun, therefore the word can be pluralized, however, in English, the noun "advice" is an uncountable noun and is never pluralized.

Also in many languages the verb do is used with the noun mistake, however, the verb "make" is used in English when referring to a mistake, hence "make a mistake".

These are two very common mistakes/errors.

And, unfortunately, there are many more common mistakes because learners often refer to their native language when writing or speaking English.

I think the most common mistake is not practicing speaking enough. Students worry too much about speaking without making errors. It's very important to take risks when learning a language. Sometimes teachers don't put enough emphasis on oral communication and on improving fluency and pronunciation. The correct grammar will come with time.

But I am talking about BASIC GRAMMAR here.

You don`t need to spend time on grammar at all once you understand the BASICS.

Hey, whats up!

I disagree with you, paying attention on grammar makes me stuck and struggling on the place. In my opinion, the students and teachers usually concentrate more on grammar than it's really needed. So, they mostly learn literal English, insted of learning practical English.
