Quora, Reddit, Wikipedia, Wiktionary et al Has anyone here experience in writing on other forums or websites like Quora, Reddit, Wikipedia, Wiktionary or others? I'm toying with the thought of writing on one of those websites, so I'd like to know more about the writing process and the community there.

Quora: It's appealing that it exists in English, French, Spanish and German. Writing in Spanish there could be good language practice for me. I often find good answers about languages and language learning there.

Reddit: They have subreddits for all kinds of topics but it looks chaotic and not so appealing to me.

Wikipedia: Who doesn't use Wikipedia? I often find topics that don't have a German Wikipedia article. Or details are missing. So, sometimes I think I should add the info or write an entry.

Wiktionary: One of my favourite tools for language learning. I mainly use the English version because there are many gaps in the German one. Sometimes a word doesn't even appear in the English version and I use other language versions, provided I can decipher them.

An advantage of Quora could be that I could write articles under my full name and in the case of Spanish it would also really add to my language learning. The advantage of Wikipedia and Wiktionary is that they're well organised and have a massive outreach. But authors of the articles remain anonymous to the greater public and others can change what you wrote.

So, which of these websites do you use when you're looking for infos and do you have experience writing on any of them?

I don't really use any of them to write answer, but use all of them to read some interesting and appealing answer and information. Quora is great and Reddit too as you can find many experts writing answer in their respective subjects of interest. Wikipedia is a bit lengthy and often boring due to too much information which leads to information overloading, but I use it when I need only information because it is not so much fun reading there.

I wrote some things on Quora last year but I got myself out of it, because of overindulgence in reading things all day long and writing answers. I have this problem with social media sites where its lure of notifications, excessive information make you a little addicted. And you spend a lot of time on it unconsciously. The more time you spend on it the more noticeable your content will become.

So Quora undeniably has a lot of good intelligent answers, personal stories and a lot of audiences. Good for language learning, as one of my student read Quora a lot. But I prefer wikipedia to get the information. I took part in their photo contests but never written anything.

I've used Wikipedia to read for the info though like you said anyone and everyone can write there, so, there is a lot of mistakes on there, at least from what I've heard...My brother writes articles for Wikipedia (and IMDB) and corrects them too. He sees it as a great way to get information out there. So, even if it is anonymous, it is a way to inform and help others, he seems to love that.
