What is better: expressing one's opinion on a controversial issue or keeping it quiet?

I learned by experience that is better keep it quiet. I am totally open for diferents ideas but not everyone think that way, so sometime it is better doesn't say anything to doesn't lose a friend.

It depends on where and when.
If you want to experiment, try to create a discussion about politics or another subject that not allowed by italki, as a result, you will be blocked. Why it is? Because some people will find the subject abusive. The same situation in real life.
If you are able to express your opinion and don't abuse anyone, so why not, do express it!

That would depend on how crucial the issue is, as well as the probabilities of getting arrested by the local dictator’s gangs of thugs.
