I came across an article on a language learning website about abbreviations and how common they are in Australia (apparently we have an estimate of 5000!). I find this interesting because the words they mentioned are words that I use and I never really thought about it.
So, what are some interesting things about your native language?
Or have you discovered something about the language you are learning you find interesting?

As far as to how often, the ones I use, I use without thinking so probably more often than I could guess. Though I don’t use them all, some of them really do depend on the speaker. I’ve actually never used doggo, though I say cuppa all the time. When it comes to speaking with my boss, from my point of view I think this would depend on where I work and which of the words I’m saying. Though yes, with both friends and strangers.

I don’t currently do voice language exchanges, there are many people under the language partners section though that should be able to help.
The article was really an interesting read. I was not aware of this fact that Aus-iss are fond of using abbreviation and to that in a massive number!:D As it was mentioned in the article, I agree that the usages of abbreviation is certainly to show a more friendly and cool personality. And it happens in general as well. Wen you talk to your friends or best friend, you don't talk to them in a professional tone, you use many slang words to make them feel familiar.
I chuckled when I read that "selfie" is an abbreviation originated in Aus beacie most of the time I try writing this word I end of writing "selfish" and my spellchecker doesn't react to it. I haven't also heard of these abbrevs before such as doggo, spenno, totts etc. That sounds hilarious though!:D
BTW, as I see you are from Australia, how often you use these abbreviation? Do you use these abbrs only with your friends and family or with stranger as well? How about talking to a boss using these abbrs, whether s/he mind?
