What are reasons to block another user?

The other day I was blocked by a user because they found my comment to their question offensive and judgemental. I meant it to be funny and informative and thought that it was pretty obvious. I do like to throw puns and play with words but I was baffled that the user blocked me for a comment that was meant to help them. I really meant it the friendly way. I did have my fights on italki about controversial topics but was never blocked for that, so I found it interesting to being blocked when I wanted to help. I actually only block other users when they're obvious scammers or trying to flirt.

For what do you block others or have been blocked yourself?

Regarding Miriam's text: I was waiting all the time for such a comment...never got one. I hear people complaining that they get so many marriage offers while I am still waiting for one. I guess I did something wrong, but just can't figure out what (irony off)

It’s weird how easily people are offended online. I don’t know whether some people are easily offended or there’s just a disconnect online that prevents proper understanding. The other day I was talking about my personal experience (on another website) and someone came out of nowhere and thought I was invalidating his own experience when I hadn’t even talked to him about the topic before. I explained to him that I was sharing my experience and offering a critique based on that, and like what does it have to do with him? He responded that “while it is possible, I don’t think that’s what you were doing.” Some people need to give the benefit of the doubt and not turn others into liars. If I tell you that I wasn’t trying to hurt or offend you, why tell me that I’m lying? It’s incredibly cynical.

The internet is weird. I don’t think people get this offended in real life. I’ve definitely never experienced it to this degree. People online are caught in their own worlds with their own interpretations. I will always prefer face-to-face communication to what social media has done to us.

Btw, that's where I draw my line. I received the following message by someone who's definitely a scammer:

"Hello, Should i say you are a Woman of substance or better still a God sent from above,u might call it flattering i am [...] by name & have come to realize that true love can only come when you don't look for it,but that doesn't mean you should not say hello to a beautiful lady when u see one...Am not flattering u this just a way to say u look good, saw your profile & felt complimenting is not a bad idea..keep looking good its a secret every woman wish for.. If you don't mind, i will like us to be friends."

I deleted the name but I advise anyone who receives such messages to block and report the sender.
