Songs and Languages: An strategy and a playlist

You don’t have to travel to a foreign country to learn its language. The key to learn a language from home is to make it part of your environment. Surround yourself with the language. You can use songs as a learning method.

Music and songs can help you memorize new grammar constructs, create relations to learn new vocabulary and expose to the language and culture.

1. An strategy Instead of, listening to a song, study it. Here it is what you can do:

    * First, enjoy the rhythm and the music!
    * Identify word and phrases you already know
    * Find the lyrics and work through the parts you don’t know.
    * Ask native speakers or use the Answer section for the tricky parts
    * Sing along. Try the shower if you are ashamed

If you are an intermediate or advanced learner, try to write down the lyrics without looking it up on the Internet. You can learn a lot of vocabulary from songs.

Thanks for your suggestions. I didn't know those bands

If you enjoy punk and rock music I'd go straight for "La Polla Records", "Kortatu", "Barricada", "Marea", "Boikot" and some related Spanish bands. As a plus, a lot of their songs are strongly related with the political reality of the country.

This one it's pretty famous in the Basque Country: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OM7xoHwEmI. It talks about about Franquism and ETA.
