Did you know that writing in foreign language was this helpful? When I was learning German, it took me less than six months to complete B2 level, starting from A1. Many people came up to me and ask me how i did it.

The answer is WRITING

Back then, i would write about different topics everyday and give my language teacher to correct. How did it help me??

1) Writing trains your speaking skills. When you write, you are basically constructing sentences in your mind. Except that you don't speak them out, but instead write them down. One of the main hindrances to speaking in a foreign language is not being able to construct sentences fast enough in your mind. Here is your solution. Don't hesitate to use it.

2) Writing and getting corrected teaches you grammar

A language like German has very complex grammar which you must follow. Doing exercises might help, but when a grammatical mistake you made gets corrected, one, two, three times, I can guarantee you that you will not make it again or you might make it, but you will correct yourself which is the most important. Because many people make mistakes but don't even know they mad one.

3) Writing teaches you the language

Unlike when speaking, you have lot's of time when writing to look up words, check if your usage of a statement or idiom is correct and so on. When speaking, your partner might correct you and you would repeat his or her correction but forget it a few minutes later. But when writing, the correction will always be with you and you will be able to go through it again, to make it sink into your mind.

These are just a few advantages of writing in a foreign language. There are a lot more. So START TODAY!!!

Hi my friend! I completely agree with you about the importance of writing, specially in the low and intermediate levels. I think that's a good advice to share with language learners and sure they're going to improve their skills if they write just some lines every day. However, there are just a few people who can achieve the B2 level in German in less than 6 months. You're one of them but that's not usual at all.

Greetings!

I agree that writing is very helpful, but it's quite hard work and sometimes I can't think of anything to say.

Bravo!

(Native English speaker, Italian student here).

Interestingly, I have come to realize how important writing is in only the last few days, started to act on it, and then I saw this post which reinforced my thinking.

Up until the last week or so, I have always thought of wiriting as "optional", but now I'm a convert. Thanks for the inspiration!
