Why do some countries get smarter faster than others? Everyone knows what a biological evolution is, but not everyone knows what a social evolution is.We know about the ancient savage orders that were commonplace in those days . Absolutely anyone average emperor of Rome , could destroy any village, cut the head off any man and he was never punished. A typical thing in the ancient epoch were the slaves. Women were second class citizens in ancient society too. But what about our modern days? It is scares me that even today, we keep having things like those of the past. Ancient manifestations still drive on our modern roads. Just imagine it, the last country where slavery was abolished, was Mauritania. It happened in 1981! Compare it with England , where slavery was aborted in 1102. Such a contrast! As we can see, the evolution evolves differently in different countries. In my humble opinion, the social evolution's peak is in countries like Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Netherlands and Switzerland. Their parliaments and governments care about their citizens. High salaries, pensions , the comfortable conditions of education, and certainly the low crime rate - these are the conditions everybody dreams about . Unfortunately , we can see similarities in only a few other countries. The social development in Latin America, Russia and China is not the same as in Sweden or Denmark. Social evolution is not in practice in Africa, the islamic world or India . At all.

Timur, there are other factors which I didn't mention. And as they say Rome wasn't built in a day, so you can't expect all those countries to be like the US overnight. The US didn't become one what it is now overnight. However, I don't consider the US to be an epitome of an all-good country. They have their challenges even being an economically surplus country:D

It doesnt matter what population is and how many people live there. In the United States there are not less people than in Indonesia, however...

I understand what you want to say BUT.....yes their is a big but. Those countries  you named who you and others consider are touching the peak of success and serenity have their own problems. And you can't directly compare them with other countries like China and India where the population is 100 times more than the population of those developed countries combined. The society  you are talking about  is not as simple as you think to reform, it takes time and you can know it if you go through the pages of history . However, all those countries, you pointed out to be stagnant, are developing in their own pace which might not be visible to you and may not come soon, but they are progressing slowly and steadily.
