knocks and clicks

The country was in the midst of yet another drought, and the watering holes in this area of the reserve had
gone dry. It wasn’t surprising; not far to the west, in Botswana, lay the vast Kalahari Desert, home of the legendary San people. Their language was thought to be one of the oldest in existence, heavy on knocks and clicks, and sounded almost alien to outsiders.

In addition to words in their language, the San or bushmen of the Kalahari desert use clicking sounds and other mouth sounds, as part of their language. No other languages in the world, except for those people in that area, use non-word clicks and sounds as part of speech. Maybe Wikipedia might be able to explain more; that is all I know.
