Sometimes people don't talk to me because I'm black and Muslim. What do you think about racism?

Do people actually tell you that they don't want to talk to you because you're black and a muslim? That would indeed be racist. Or do you just assume it because they don't reply to your messages? Then it's just a common problem many users have here, regardless of their race and religion. It's not easy to find language partners and many people don't reply to messages.

It's certainly possible some people don't talk to you because of your heritage. In fact, they're doing you a favor even if it doesn't seem like it. Why would you want to talk to people who judge people solely by their ethnic background or religion? Be thankful they've removed themselves from the pool of potential contacts, so you don't have to waste time finding out that they're...simple-minded is a nice way to put it.

In my experience, some people really do not want a language partner who isn't, say, a French guy who can trace his family tree several generations back in France, with what they consider to be a classic French appearance, typical French name (or what they imagine it to be), regardless of whether the person can even spell or construct a decent sentence in his language...

That said, who am I to judge? If that's what they want, that's what they want. Their loss, if their criteria are so laughable. I feel bad for them because they're unlikely to learn anything with such shallow parameters.

I've also met people who don't care at all where you are from or about different facets of your identity. They just care about what you know and who you are. So, forget the simple-minded types who aren't going to do very well anyway. There are smarter people around.

Well, it stinks, of course. If you give people the smile that you have in your picture and they don't talk to you they have a serious problem. I apologize on behalf of my country, the U.S., which seems to be moving in an increasingly racist direction.

But as long as they don't offend you, other users can choose their language partners like they want. Some prefer someone in their own age range, same/other gender, certain nationality, same time zone, same language level or with similar hobbies, Or they simply already have enough language partners or don't want to do language exchange at all. There are many reasons why others might not reply.

We are making progress in equity and equality but it will take a lot of time to eliminate it completely. It has different forms it lives among us in disguise people in my country might not think they are racist but that's an even bigger problem to not even recognize it. Btw you are beautiful.
